NE Ohio processors awarded $3.4M in grants to increase meat supply

Sixteen Northeast Ohio companies are receiving $3.4 million in grants aimed at strengthening the local meat supply chain and reducing reliance on out-of-state meat processors.
A total of 75 Ohio companies were awarded $15 million during the second round of the Ohio Meat Processing Grant Program to expand capacity and meet the growing demand for meat processing services, said Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted in a Wednesday statement.
The Ohio legislature originally provided $10 million to the grand program, and in April lawmakers added $15 million more to it because grant demand far exceeded supply, according to the governor's and lieutenant governor's statement.
