Wayne County Growth Ranks 2nd in Nation printer friendly viewprinter friendly

Wayne County has been named the second best performing economy in the country for 2006.

The Top Micropolitans rankings are part of the Governor's Cup awards given by Site Selection magazine and ranks nearly 400 such regions across the country based upon new investment and jobs announced in the previous year.  These awards are considered to be the most prestigious awards in economic development.

According to an internal study, Wayne County is also one of only thirteen micros in the country to place among the Top 100 in each of the years between 2000 and 2005. Among those, it ranks sixth during that time frame in the number of new development projects.

Site Selection
editor Mark Arend said, "The U.S. is a big country with a lot of micropolitans, so ranking second in our Top Micropolitans for 2006 is no small feat.  Your area logged 21 qualifying projects as tracked by our New Plant Database, and the WEDC should be proud of this recognition for the success it represents. This information really validates the strengths of your efforts."

Site Selection also ranked Stonecraft's new manufacturing facility in Wooster the largest single project in the building materials industry last year and named the State of Ohio as the recipient of its Governor's Cup this year for logging the most qualifying projects of any state in the country.
